Thank you for that Modquakka - maybe I did read it wrong. I certainly didn't realised that you could spoil a vote before and I think it's a way forward. Of course I can't speak for anyone else but I'd rather register my vote (and spoil it) than doing nothing - I only wish more people would do the same.

In my opinion the way to bash the system is to stand yourself. Put yourself up for scrutiny. If everyone did this it would increase democracy. Pity that all candidates have to pay a deposit. So this suggestion would only works if you had spare cash burning a hole in your pocket.

I agree with Geordie. For a few months I worked for a London digital agency that specialised in public service clients. I was shocked at the huge budgets they managed to secure - about 4 times as much as the private equivalent - and the end product was shoddy to say the least. Agree wholeheartedly. Who wants our national debt to be five times our national income by 2040 as predicted on conservative (note small 'C') estimates if we do nothing new? Still at least Gordon is saying he wants to clean up the mess that he didn't help to cause - how noble!

Bravo! I think you have quite neatly synthesized the political lines of all three parties here. Maybe we should sack the lot of them and revert to a proper ruling monarchy? Poor people were never fat in the olden days. No one would be free but we'd still be encouraged to eat cake, guilt free, because we wouldn't have a choice. Or Facebook probably.
