Sue Son, the Vanessa Mae alike who the judges encouraged to disappoint her best friend by auditioning solo instead of as part of a duo, performed again on Britain’s Got Talent tonight and didn’t make it through to the next round.
Once again the producers did their best to milk the best friend scenario with constant reference to how much Sue had sacrificed to be there and showing repeated footage of what happened between the two girls at audition stage.
After Sue’s performance tonight all three judges focussed more on what happened between Sue and her now ex best friend than Sue herself: Piers Morgan said her performance showed she was vindicated in what she did, Amanda Holden said ‘What sort of best friend was she anyway?’ and Simon Cowell described her former best friend as ‘terrible’.
Makes you wonder, if it wasn’t for her ‘best friend’ and the media attention that the scenario received would Sue have got through? Let’s face it, why was one girl with a violin such a find at this year’s audition stage when the group Escala; made up of four much more charasmatic and talented female violinists, failed to win last year?
Simon’s parting comment to Sue was that she was ‘unlikeable’. Understandably, she looked like as if she was about to cry.
I just hope the person who can empathise best with how Sue is feeling, after a tongue lashing from Simon Cowell on global TV, can forgive her and the two girls can go back to being friends. |
