Wikileaks, Surprise Sex and Condoms

Wikileaks has exposed the real world crushing the world we once thought we knew.

It has also exposed Julian Assange and his intimate sex life. Exposed governments are fighting fire with fire. He lived by using the sword of public scrutiny so maybe he’s going to die by the same sword, his reputation ruined by a honey-trap.

In the world we once knew our friends’ sons and husbands were fighting the Taliban and supporting the government in Afghanistan to make the world safer.

In the real world, the US knows that, “[Karzai is] a paranoid and weak individual unfamiliar with the basics of nation-building.”

In Julian’s world he was a good guy loved by women. In the real world he is a rapist denied bail for sexual assault.

In our cosy familiar world our leaders know what they are doing; while under the diplomatic spot light they are seen as weak and ineffective, like ex Australian PM Kevin Rudd described as “mistake-prone control freak” who makes “snap announcements without consulting other countries or within the Australian government”.

Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi is described as “feckless and vain” and had profited from a “nefarious connection” with Russian PM Vladimir Putin.

Through the Internet we know Julian’s intimate bedroom actions and scumbag promises. He promised to wear condom then didn’t. He carried on with sex although his partner changed her mind. A stag or a slag depending on how you look at it.

Although this is not rape as we know it in the UK. Here rape is about coercion, about was force used or whether the victim resists. Swedish law is better as it is about consent. So agreeing to wear a condom then not doing so or not stopping in mid-flow when requested in Sweden is sexual assault or rape. So the battle of the sexes continues.

The news channels say the cold war is over; the leaks say different, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton signed a confidential cable saying allies in Nato had agreed to expand the contingency plan to defend Poland, to include the Baltic states.

The details of Assange’s case, according website, Feministe, http://www.feministe.us/blog/archives/2010/12/06/some-thoughts-on-sex-by-surprise/

The actual details of what happened are hard to come by, and are largely filtered through tabloid sources that are quick to offer crucial facts like the hair color of the women (blonde) and the clothes they wore (pink, tight), but it sounds like the sex was consensual on the condition that a condom was used.

It also sounds like in one case, a condom use was negotiated for and Assange agreed to wear a condom but didn’t, and the woman didn’t realize it until after they had sex; in the second case, it sounds like the condom broke and the woman told Assange to stop, which he did not.

This is of course speculation based on the bare-bones reported description of events, but it’s at least clear that “this is a case of a broken condom” isn’t close to the whole story.

It’s also worth pointing out that the charge is actually a quite minor one in Sweden, and the punishment is a $700 fine.

The threat of war is never far away. Heavy Sunday papers trumpet that nuclear weapons are bad and that nuclear proliferation is worse yet in the cold light of day the cables say; The US urged China to stop a shipment of missile components from North Korea to Iran in 2007, and also expressed concern over Chinese computer hacking.

If the facts of Julian’s case resemble the leaks, honey-trap or no honey-trap then Julian is a douche-bag.

However, on that basis most married men are also sometimes scumbags. Would a married women ever fake an orgasm if marital sex was always truly consensual?

The leaks also contain sexual gossip. Libya is dominated by one man. We never hear about his wife children or love life unless the US kills them in a bombing raid. Yet his private life is as interesting as any D-list celeb’s. The secrets reveal that, Libyan leader Colonel Gaddafi relies heavily on his long-time Ukrainian nurse, described as a “voluptuous blonde”.

However, Julian is accused by a blonde and so is held without bail.

In our free press the third world is full of bullies like North Korea, Cuba, Sudan, Yemen, Iran and so on but the truth revealed by Assange is that the biggest bully is the US. Leaks say, “Our intention was not to threaten . . . but rather to urge that the German Government weigh carefully implications for relations with the US.”

It is now Julian (maybe the sexual bully) who is a victim of bullying. If he dies mysteriously, alone in a wood, committing suicide by slitting his wrists (like David Kelly http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_David_Kelly ) then with his death, part of all of us dies. That part that loves truth even when it makes us unconformable.

I used to think that we had a defense budget but in reality we have one for attack. The whistle-blowing website says, “[King Hamad of Bahrain] argued
forcefully for taking action to terminate their nuclear program, by whatever means necessary.”

Before the leaks I believed the propaganda that North Korea stupidly spend most of GDP on defense from a fictitious enemy but what the US says in secret shows they have every right to fear for their future as leaks say; China frustrated with North Korea and coming round to the view the Korean peninsula should be reunified under Seoul’s control in the long term. North Korea’s Kim Jong-il described by US diplomats as a “flabby old chap”.

I was taught that the UK occupies the moral high ground never giving in to blackmail, paying kidnap ransoms or bribes. However, the truth is some what more disappointing. Apply a little pressure and moral and judicial independence can be forgotten. Reality, “The Libyans have told HMG flat out that there will be “enormous repercussions” for the UK-Libya bilateral relationship if Megrahi’s early release is not handled properly.”

So Megrahi is released.

“[Prince Andrew] railed at British anti-corruption investigators, who had the ‘idiocy’ of almost scuttling the Al-Yamama deal with Saudi Arabia.”

Julian is incarcerated but what can we bloggers do? The hacktervists are trying there best to pressure governments and corporations. We need to speak out and hold our own governments to account. Judge them how they judge others.

Desperate Jamaican women are coerced into being drug mules by Yardy gangs ruining the lives of our youth with illegal drugs, the poison they push. These criminals have nothing to do with democratically elected governments or normal world trade. The leaks shines a light on this and presents another view.

“Mexican security institutions are often locked in competition… information is closely guarded, and joint operations are all but unheard of.”

“Escobar’s drug trafficking operation received Ortega’s approval to land and load airplanes in Nicaragua as they sought to ship cocaine to the United States. In return, Ortega and the FSLN received large cash payments from Escobar.”

9/11 was financed and originated from Afganistan and Iraq, the bad guys. The good guys like Saudi Arabia and Pakistan are helping us to prevent another atrocity. Wikileaks say differently:

“The UK has deep concerns about the safety and security of Pakistan’s nuclear weapons.”

“More needs to be done since Saudi Arabia remains a critical financial support base for al-Qaeda, the Taliban, LeT, and other terrorist groups, including Hamas, which probably raise millions of dollars annually from Saudi sources, often during Hajj and Ramadan.”

So who are our real friends, what do the diplomats think?

“[Spanish prosecutor Jose ‘Pepe’ Grinda Gonzalez] stated that he considers Belarus, Chechnya and Russia to be virtual ‘mafia states’.”

Embassy claims Rolls-Royce lost out on a key contract with the Spanish military following lobbying of Spain’s Prime Minister Jose Luis Zapatero by Washington.

Diplomats were instructed under Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s name to collect DNA samples, fingerprints and credit card details of key UN officials.

We in the wise west prosecute leaders such as Sad man Hussein who commit war crimes but only when it suits us.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa (of Sri Lanka) was responsible for alleged war crimes, according to a January 2010 cable sent by the US ambassador.

The truth that has leaked is that war is the game that the big boys play. We are controlled by military-industrial-complex not democracy. We depend on it. The leaks highlight this:

“BAE Systems (Operations) Ltd., Preston, Lancashire, United Kingdom: Critical to the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter…”

Saudi Arabia proposed an Arab-led military force to destroy Hezbollah in Lebanon in 2008.

So what happens next is Julian going down in history as a hero or arsehole?

I think this song by Kanye West sums it up. We are all fallible, made of clay but this does not stop us aspiring to high ideals. So don’t be cynical do something.

Runaway:

And I always find, yeah, I always find somethin’ wrong
You been puttin’ up wit’ my shit just way too long
I’m so gifted at findin’ what I don’t like the most
So I think it’s time for us to have a toast

Let’s have a toast for the douchebags,
Let’s have a toast for the assholes,
Let’s have a toast for the scumbags,
Every one of them that I know
Let’s have a toast for the jerkoffs
That’ll never take work off
Baby, I got a plan
Run away fast as you can

She find pictures in my email
I sent this girl a picture of my, dick
I don’t know what it is with females
But I’m not too good with that, shit
See, I could have me a good girl
And still be addicted to them hoodrats
And I just blame everything on you
At least you know that’s what I’m good at

And I always find
Yeah, I always find
Yeah, I always find somethin’ wrong
You been puttin’ up with my shit just way too long
I’m so gifted at findin’ what I don’t like the most
So I think it’s time for us to have a toast

Let’s have a toast for the douchebags,
Let’s have a toast for the assholes,
Let’s have a toast for the scumbags,
Every one of them that I know
Let’s have a toast for the jerkoffs
That’ll never take work off
Baby, I got a plan
Run away fast as you can

Run away from me, baby
Run away
Run away from me, baby
Run away
Doesn’t have to get crazy,
Why can’t she just run away?
Babe I’ve got a plan,
Run away as fast as you can
Run away from me, baby
Run away
Run away from me, baby
Run away
Doesn’t have to get crazy,
Why can’t she just, run away?
Baby I got a plan,
Run away as fast as you can

(Pusha T)

24/7, 365, pussey stays on my mind
I-I-I-I did it, all right, all right, I admit it
Now pick your next move, you could leave or live wit’ it
Ichabod Crane with that motherfuckin’ top off
Split and go where? Back to wearin’ knockoffs, ha ha
Knock it off, Neiman’s, shop it off
Let’s talk over mai tais, waitress, top it off
Whoes like Hoechers wanna fly in your Freddy loafers
You can’t blame ‘em, they ain’t never seen Versace sofas
Every bag, every blouse, every bracelet
Comes with a price tag, baby, face it
You should leave if you can’t accept the basics
Plenty whoes in the baller-nigga’s matrix
Invisibly set, the Rolex is faceless
I’m just young, rich, and tasteless
P!

(Kanye)

Never was much of a romantic
I could never take the intimacy
And I know it did damage
Plus the look in your eyes, is killing me
I guess you knew an advantage
Cuz you can blame me for every thing
And I don’t know how imma manage
If one day you just up and leave

And, I always find somethin’ wrong
Yeah I always find somethin’ wrong
You been puttin’ up with my shit just way too long
I’m so gifted at findin’ what I don’t like the most
So I think it’s time for us to have a toast

Let’s have a toast for the douchebags,
Let’s have a toast for the assholes,
Let’s have a toast for the scumbags,
Every one of them that I know
Let’s have a toast for the jerkoffs
That’ll never take work off
Baby, I got a plan
Run away fast as you can

All people owe a debt of gratitude to Julian for showing us how internet technology can be used to uphold human rights; defend the poor and powerless from mindless government power, and hold the powerful to account.

Who isn't a douche-bag at some point in their life? The problem is that IT, especially the web, has evolved at such a fast pace recently that now too many people (douche-bags) from all over the world are getting involved before the necessary structures and processes have been put in place to ensure effective communication. This really could be the beginning of the end.
