Appearances can be deceptive

CAN WE REALLY BELIEVE THE INTERNET CHERRY SELLERS?

You’re flown to Venice by an Italian businessman where together you take in some sites, then indulge in an a la carte dinner before retiring to your luxury suite. You kiss and undress each other. He lays you on the bed and starts kissing your body. You have sex.

Not exactly the typical ‘losing your virginity’ story…

But this is supposedly the true story of the latest ICS (Internet Cherry Seller), Romanian Alina Percea. (pictured above)

By auctioning her virginity online she claims to have raised £9,000 to put towards her university fees.

Not quite the $2.5 million raised last year by 22 year old Californian student Natalie Dylan.

But £600 more than 18 year old Bristol based lesbian Rosie Reid received in 2004.

Alina claimed:

“I hoped I’d meet a nice man, like in the film Pretty Woman. At the arrivals lounge, a man came over, smiled, handed me a box of chocolates and said: ‘Welcome to Venice’. He looked much younger than 45, short, but nicely dressed, with dark hair, green eyes and a kind smile.”

“He paid me a lot of compliments throughout the day and he was very funny and charming. We had a lovely dinner in the hotel then we went back to the room together. I thought he was very good looking for his age. He didn’t have a beer belly or anything like that. We got on very well. He didn’t say if he was married or had a family, and I didn’t ask him. We didn’t use a condom but he showed me a certificate to say he was free of sexual infections and I took the morning after pill. The next day we went for breakfast like any other couple.”

Hmmm…OK then.

Although, what’s to stop someone who’s already sold their virginity fabricating the truth to the media and making more money in the process? Surely not their morals?

It’s not as if the only other witness is likely to come forward with a different version of the event:

“Actually, I have a huge beer belly, she flew Easy Jet, it was a Holiday Inn and I want some money back as she refused to suck my **. Just don’t tell my wife and kids.”

But I’m sure Alina is right and it was just like Pretty Woman. In fact I think the director’s cut has an extra scene showing Richard Gere; in his Y fronts, paper clipping his certificates together then wanking off on his keyboard.

Good on these girls I say. We're all commodities these days - whether we're selling our talents, our Monday to Fridays or our bodies. At least these girls are showing a bit of creativity and entrepreneurship and not just watching the clock or pushing through ridiculous expense claims!

    I’m guessing you're a man, Let’s Cyber?

The Pretty Woman analogy probably isn’t as pertinent to men as it is to us women.

My point is that this girl is glorifying selling your virginity to the highest bidder. Making it sound safe, glamourous and even romantic when in fact it is dangerous and sleazy.

It's sending out the wrong message. Her story may inspire others to try it and have disasterous consequences.

Girls who auction their virginity on the internet are bought by men who put a price on everything but value nothing. Good article Barbie. Is there something you want to tell us?
