Being female today

This video shows a series of images that I hope will evoke in the viewer a sense of what it is to be a woman today.

Erm... Not sure we agree. You can hardly compare PMS to the football season. And the rest of your comment is just stereotypical waffle as far as I can see. Its a far more complex issue than your simplistic and all too often repeated list of 'double standards' makes it out to be.

As a man I can relate to this poem. Women in men's eyes are contradictions. You bare your souls and wear your hearts on your sleeves. But you also break hearts and, wear soles and punish bare feet in impossible heels.
Great poem - I love it.

I think you are missing the point Gloria. Who cares what the media presents as the 'norm'? To quote from this article 'It’s about ignoring things that don’t matter and focusing on things that do.' I think this article is spot on. We need to look inside ourselves for the answers and not rely on doctors to tell us how healthy we are, institutions to tell us how clever we are and mag...

Are gay men really the great celebrators of women the media makes them out to be?

Gay men are great at celebrating women. Well that's what we're led to believe. You see supposed examples everywhere; from the GBFs of Sex and the City to our newly hailed queens of TV; Graham Nor...

I'd like to suggest that the answer to this article is that women, now days, are way too superficial. It use to be men that were blinded by shapely legs and chest. Now it's women who are after six pack owning, well attired, caring, touchy feely men. Hence the rise in GBF. Women don't need to be carbon copies of superficial men to be liberated.

The culture of over 'celebrating' women is patronising and thankfully in the past

I'm not sure women need or even want to be 'celebrated'; they simply want to be respected and treated as equal to men. Would you ever run a competition entitled 'Celebrating Men'? I doubt it. Me...

I disagree. There is a big difference between ‘equal’ and ‘the same’, and while I strongly believe that women and men should be treated equally, there is nothing wrong with celebrating our differences. You’re right, men don’t seem to feel the need to compliment one another constantly, and that can be very refreshing, but I also love the fact that a female friend notices when the spots on m...

Celebrate women? We don't know how

Perhaps if we all stop pandering to stifling feminine labels such as ‘nice’ and ‘lovely’, that none of us really deserve or really want in any case, we'll be able to celebrate each other properly; ...

From what I've seen of Lose Women no, I think the panel is pretty one dimentional - they seem to think equality is achieved by binge drinking, letching after men, and never asking any intelligent or insightful questions.

You need to know where to look. Such customs, hospitality and tradition do still exist in the UK but among the working class. Where I live in Hackney they are the chains that comfort while imprisoning the impoverished majority. The middle class has moved to new greener fields, in search of modernity leaving their roots behind.
